THE GOSPEL OF JOHN (Chs 1-6) 10. THE SUPREME COURT (John 5:19-47)

Who is this man Jesus?

  • He claims to be God (v1-18)
  • His Knowledge, Compassion and Power
  • He claims to be Saviour and Judge (v19-30)
  • He calls on us to be the Jury (v31-47)

He claims to be Saviour and Judge (v19-30)

  • Jesus is the perfect representation and revelation of God to mankind
  • Jesus is given vast responsibilities from God concerning mankind

He calls on us to be the Jury (v31-47)

The Witnesses:

  • John the Baptist – A lamp to show us the way (v35)
  • Jesus’ Words and Works – The light to bring us to life (v36 and v1-18)
  • The Old Testament Scriptures – They lead us to the truth (v39-47)
The Claims – The Evidence – The Witnesses
NOW – THE VERDICT!
But there’s a twist ….

The Accused is now the Judge and the Jury is now in the Dock

  • We face a present responsibility – Listen and Respond by Believing v24-25
  • We face a future reality – Life or Condemnation v28-29
