THE MASTER’S MEN – 3. JAMES (THE BROTHER OF JOHN) (Mark 13:1-13)

THE MASTER’S MEN – 3. JAMES (THE BROTHER OF JOHN) (Mark 13:1-13)

1. HIS FAMILY

Zebedee his father & Salome his mother

Zebedee did not stop his son leaving the family business and joining Jesus. Salome also followed Jesus and was present at the Crucifixion (Matt 27:54, Mark 15:40) and she was there at the empty tomb (Mark 16:1)

2. HIS FAITH

He followed immediately (he was called) and to the end. James was one of 3 disciples we refer to as “The Inner Circle” of Jesus. They were together on 4 special occasions:

a) At the raising of Jairus’s daughter – he saw Christ’s greatness

b) At the Mount of Transfiguration – he saw Christ’s glory

c) At the Temple –

d) At Gethsemane – he saw Christ’s grief

3. HIS FAITHFULNESS

Along with the other Apostles they preached with boldness. They preached the Resurrection, Repentance & the need for sins to be forgiven. James was killed by Herod as he sought to “harass some from the church” (Acts 12:1). James was faithful unto death.
