THE LORD’S PRAYER 4. YOUR WILL BE DONE (Matt 6:5-15)

1. WHAT IS THE WILL OF GOD?

a) The Will of Decree
  • We will never fully understand it while on earth
  • God’s sovereign purpose is in all things and He is not caught
  • off guard or out of control
  • He works all things to the counsel of His will
  • God plans to unite all things under Christ
b) The Will of Command
  • Because of disobedience does not always happen
  • Instruction as found in the Bible
  • The call to be like Jesus in life of worship characterised by
  • self-denial, obedience, witness, purity and thankfulness

2. WHY DOES JESUS TELL HIS DISCIPLES TO PRAY FOR THIS?

a) Not to change God but to change us by putting Him central in our thinking our feeling and our planning
b) So that we would partner with him because he knows what is best for us
c) So that we would submit our plans to God’s plans because they are higher than ours

3. WHAT DOES LIFE IN THE WILL OF GOD LOOK LIKE?

a) Jesus
b) Your whole life as daily sacrifice
c) Renewed mind shaped by the bible
Value, meaning, purpose, a sense of peace, security and honour are found in Jesus alone, and He says, if you want Me, deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Me.
