You are loved!

a) BELOVED: “Beloved by the Lord” v13, 1 Jn 4:7-10

b) CHOSEN: “God chose you as first fruits to be saved”

(Eph 1:4, 1:11)

c) CALLED: “To this he called you…” v14, Romans 8:30

You are saved!

a) THROUGH SANCTIFICATION BY THE SPIRIT:

(1 Thess 1:5, Ephesians 1:13-14, 1 John 3:27)

b) THROUGH BELIEF IN THE TRUTH

(1 Thess John 17:17, Romans 8:30)

(NB These work concurrently, not sequentially)

You are secure!

a) STAND FIRM, HOLD TO

In face of false teaching, persecution and temptation, hold onto

What is true! (see 2:1-3, compare to 2:10-12)

b) TRADITIONS THAT YOU WERE TAUGHT

Apostolic traditions, not ecclesiastical traditions (Matt 15:3-6)

Christ Jesus is the foundation (Ephesians 2:19-20)

c) GLORY IS COMING

“so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ”

(2 Thess 1:10, Colossians 3:1-4)

You are family!

a) BROTHERS & SISTERS

v14: our Gospel… our Lord Jesus Christ,

v15: taught by us, either by our spoken word, or by our letter

v16: God our Father, who loved us, and gave us eternal

comfort

b) GOOD WORDS & GOOD WORKS

Seen & displayed in church family, and by church family

A people set apart (sanctified) by God, for God
